Richard Gere is wanted in India
An arrest warrant was issued by an Indian court against Hollywood actor Richard Gere, (58), on April 26, and asked film actress Shilpa Shetty to appear on May 5, in connection with a case of kissing, on the neck and the cheeks several times, in public. Gere’s kiss in India caused uproar and protests in the country which led to that arrest warrant.
The two actors kissed at an AIDS awareness campaign event in New Delhi recently and this amounted to “indecent representation of sexual activities” at a public place. The judge cited the duo’s “highly sexually erotic” behavior. This offense is punishable by up to 3 months in prison!
Gere insists that he was only re-enacting a scene from his movie “Shall We Dance” to connect with the crowd, and while the kiss went “a little overboard,” it wasn’t obscene.
Shetty responded to these protests by saying "I understand this (kissing) is his culture, not ours. But this was not such a big thing or so obscene for people to overreact in such a manner. I understand people's sentiments, but I don't want a foreigner to take bad memories from here."
Gere is a well-known Buddhist and an active supporter of the Dalai Lama.
Good luck Gear! But do you think that kiss is worth 3 months in prison?!
