Brown Anoles Are My Friend

It was the cutest thing I have ever seen, well besides for my three boys that is. Anyway, living in a very warm climate such as Florida, you tend to see a great deal of these little brown anoles (lizards) running around. They are no bigger than your long finger and are extremely fast. How do I know this? Well my husband being an animal lover actually ran around and chased these little creatures trying to see if he could catch one. That was quite the laugh.

Having been in Florida for a while now, I have had the advantage to observe these little creatures. They are completely harmless (but they do bite on occasion and it does pinch). You will find them just about anywhere and everywhere. I would sit out on my lanai and find them hanging from trees, climbing up my lanai screen and doors, sunning themselves on my grill and hanging off of a rake or hose. It is totally cute.

I am originally from Massachusetts and you simply do not find these cute little lizards around. Yes, we have a big oil industry dealing in red diesel and the like as a state, but that hasn’t effected the enviroment like many people think. I just don’t think they can survive up there. My husband absolutely loves these things. He even names them. Let’s see, we have a “Godzilla” (big black one), “no tail” (this one lost his tail in battle), “reddy” (obviously a red toned one) and others.

Coming down to Florida has had it’s advantages. Not only is it nice to get away from the wintery snow and blustery winds, get a year round tan and be able to swim on my own lanai, but I get to sit down, relax and watch these funny little creatures run around. It doesn’t get any better than this. Maybe someday my husband will actually catch one of these things and we can have ourselves a little pet. There wouldn’t even be a need for pet insurance. Just kidding. That is the last thing I want to do as I wouldn’t be able to stand the food they eat, bugs.
