The

The Great 'New Year' Mystery.

I wonder why it is that we make such a big deal out of the New Year. You can be sure that there will be more hangovers in the world on the first of January than on any other day of the whole year. But why do we see it as being such an important thing to celebrate?

We all like to make a fresh start to things sometimes and a new year is a great way to begin again with a clean slate. All of the things that we got wrong in the previous twelve months can be forgotten about whilst we concentrate on the future instead. It is a time to do away with the old and start all over again.

And then there are the famous resolutions… but how many of us actually stick to any of them? For some people it is a really good time to make a mark on the sand and to change your ways. However, a lot of us tend to make promises that we know we can never keep. In the last few minutes of 2009 you can bet your bottom dollar that thousands of people threw their cigarettes in the bin and vowed never to smoke again… but there will have been a great many that spent the early part of 2010 clawing through the rubbish or desperately trying to cadge a smoke from a friend. We humans are funny creatures and we chop and change with the wind.

The other thing about us is that we are always on the lookout for an excuse to do things. The New Year is just like Christmas, an engagement, a wedding or a birthday; it is a good reason for us to drink too much and wake up regretting it the next day!

One last thing, I have just became aware of the fact that I have been gapeing at my computer screen for the last couple of hours and am really tired of posting on this Twin Peaks forum, I think it is time for a change, these and more updates coming soon!
